This design, California Hills, was printed in regular numbered editions by Aldrin, in slightly different combinations of colors on the hills and distant mountains. While impression A is regular numbered variant, impression B is a monotype print (or more accurately, a monoprint). A print is considered a monotype if the artist has manipulated the inks in such a way that it can not be replicated. Monotype printing is often called painterly printing, because the artist applies the ink or pigment to a surface and then pulls a single impression, sometimes followed by a second 'ghost' impression of the residual ink. This particular impression seems to be a 'ghost' of a regular print, thus a monoprint.
