Kyoryusai Ittan
Nagoya, early 19th century
wood goat
length 1 1/4 in., 3.2 cm
Reclining and compactly curling to his left, the goat raises his head slightly and with the corners of his mouth turned upwards bears a somewhat bemused expression. The himotoshi is formed by a gap between his legs. The hair-work is very finely carved, the wood is stained dark red-brown. Signed Ittan, with kao on a polished oval reserve.
