extremely finely carved ho-o (phoenix) rests on a bed of foliage, the feathers and leaves wrapping around to the reverse side where the leaves and branches part to reveal the stipled surface of a fruit, the himotoshi with one larger opening to receive the knot of the cord, the plume of the bird inlaid in pale pink coral and the eyes double-inlaid in light and dark horn; unsigned
