Born in Tokyo, Oda Kazuma studied Western-style painting with Kawamura Kiyoo (1899-1934) and lithography with Kaneko Masajirô. Kazuma worked primarily as a lithographer, but he was also an ukiyo-e enthusiast, publishing two books on the subject. Although he produced six shin-hanga style woodblock prints with the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo (1885-1962), the vast majority of his oeuvre was in the medium of lithography.

This print is an particularly interesting work as Kazuma managed to produce a lithograph that successfully captures the feel of a woodblock print. Although he was prolific with his designs, his self-published prints were produced in small editions.
