Kawase Hasui

1883-1957

Moonlit night, Miyajima
(Miyajima no tsukiyo)

signed Hasui with artist's seal Kawase, publisher's round Watanabe seal at lower left corner, the title on the left margin, Miyajima no tsukiyo, followed by the date, Showa nijuninen saku (made in Showa 12 [1947])

oban tate-e 15 3/8 by 10 3/8 in., 38.9 by 26.3 cm

This impression is notably darker overall and more saturated with blue than the impressions illustrated in Narazaki, Brown, and the Shimada City monographs, which have more contrast between the shadowed foreground and the lighter blue water.
