A view of the morning activities at a house of assignation as viewed from the second floor interior courtyard. At left two courtesans share a futon, while one sleeps the other rises while speaking to a third woman through an open fusuma panel. At the center a slightly disheveled courtesan helps a customer with his haori as a maid hands him his roiro lacquer inro and fan. At right, three men and a maid look down into the courtyard where a man and woman are only partially clothed. |
