signed in the middle of the fan Beisen e kaku with his seal unread, and round seal at upper right, ko/sho-?, the title in large writing at the right Bungaku sekai dai kyu: Ima Miyuki, followed by the author's name Kaneko Shunmu saku, and the book publisher above the flowers Shunyodo hakko, the poem surrounding the figure reads, Asakaze tsuyuno hinuma (Morning wind before dew disappears), ca. 1891

This watercolor was used for the woodblock printed cover and frontispiece accompanying the novel Ima Miyuki (Now Deep Snow) by Kaneko Shunmu (b. 1871) for Bungaku Sekai (World of Literature) magazine, no. 9, published in 1891. The publisher folded the composition in half, using the right half for the cover and the left half, with the figure, for the frontispiece image.
