two sheets of a triptych; signed Toyokuni ga within the artist's Toshidama cartouche, with combined censor and date seal Inu-roku, aratame (year of the dog [1862], 6th lunar month, examined), publisher's seal Yokoyama San, Kikuichi han of Kikuya Ichibei of Kinkodo, and carver's seal Hori Kane, 1862

oban tate-e diptych 14 1/8 by 19 1/2 in., 35.8 by 49.5 cm

The actor Nakamura Tsuruzo (Nakamura Nakazo III, 1809-1886) is in the role of Aburaya Genemon, the actor Ichikawa Fukutaro I (Ichikawa Sai'nyu, 1843-1916) is in the role of musume (maiden) Osome, and the actor Nakamura Fukusuke (1839-1867) is in the role of Detsuchi Hisamatsu from an unknown play, staged at the Morita Theater in 1862.
