the sumi ink on paper preparatory drawing with red under-drawing; together with an impression of the corresponding original print with subtle carving and printing of her hair shomenzuri (burnishing) on the black inner-sleeve and obi; signed Yoshu Chikanobu, dated at upper left, Meiji sanjunen juichigatsu tsuitachi insatsu (printed in Meiji 30  November 1st), Dogetsu toka hakko (published in the same month, 10th), followed by publisher's information Rinji insatsuken hakkosha, Akiyama Buemon, with his address in Nihonbashi-ku, and identifies the design as number 15 from the series, ca. 1897

The sumi ink drawing and red under-drawing reveal the artist's adjustments to the placement of the beauty's hand as she pulls at her wrap across her chest near her collar. However the finished print shows that Chikanobu decided to add more movement to the composition and positions her hand up higher in the act of draping the shawl across her shoulders.
