signed kio ('old with happiness') Toyokuni ga within the artist's Toshidama cartouche, with publisher's seal To, Horiecho, Ebrin of Ebiya Rinnosuke, carver's seal Matsushima Hori Masu, and combined censor and date seal Inu-ichi, aratame (year of the dog [1862], 1st lunar month, examined)

oban tate-e triptych 14 1/8 by 29 1/4 in., 35.9 by 74.4 cm

The onnagata Onoe Kikugoro II (1814-1875) is in the role of Akishino, the actor Ichikawa Kodanji IV (1812-1866) is in the role of Bungonosuke, and the actor Ichikawa Ichizo III (1833-1865) is in the role of Toriyama Akisaku from the play Kurikaeshi Mimasu no Tamamono, staged at the Morita Theater in the 1st lunar month of 1862.
