signed Toyokuni ga within the artist's Toshidama cartouche, with censor's seal aratame (examined), date seal Mi-shi (year of the snake [1857], 4th lunar month), and publisher's seal Tsujiyasu of Tsujiya Yasubei

oban tate-e triptych 14 1/8 by 29 1/8 in., 35.9 by 74.1 cm

The actor Ichikawa Ichizo III (1833-1865) is in the role of detchi (the apprentice) Ichimatsu, the actor Nakamura Fukusuke I (Nakamura Shikan IV, 1831-1899) is in the role of Yaoya Hanbei, and the onnagata Ichikawa Dannosuke V (d. 1864) is in the role of the geisha Kohina from the play Na Nomi Yaoya Ryori no Futsutsuka, staged at the Nakamura Theater in Edo in the 4th lunar month of 1857.
