For each design in the Edo Ink (Edo zumi) series Binnie produced non-tattoo versions. This design was also used for Yoshitoshi's Ghosts (Yoshitoshi no bakemono). The alternate palettes emphasize the nudes themselves, juxtaposing the exposed skin against rich red or pink grounds, and eliminating the ukiyo-e references found in the cartouches, signatures and pictogram seals. These red-ground variants are usually issued in very small editions. In this case, as with White Cat, the edition is of only thirty impressions.
