Koson

Ohara Koson

Shoson, 1877-1945

Cockatoo and Pomegranate
(Zakuro ni omu)

finely printed with saturated black background and deep karazuri ('blind printing') on the feathers; signed Shoson with artist's seal Shoson, published by Watanabe Shozaburo (no seal), ca. 1930s

dai oban tate-e 15 3/8 by 10 1/4 in., 39.1 by 26 cm

Although this impression is lacking a publisher seal, the texture of the paper, the subtlety of the impression and the comparative scarcity of this design all suggest that this is a pre-war printing.
