koban 9 5/8 by 6 5/8 in., 24.6 by 16.8 cm
This is the second state of this design. The first edition in a dark red palette, Kemuri (Smoke), quickly sold out its edition of 40 impressions. As is his custom, the artist only issues additional editions of a design with significant changes to the palette and/or blocks. Beyond changing the monochrome of this print from red to blue, he shortened the hair at the forehead, while also lengthening the trail of smoke wafting beyond the margins.
