This is the sixth design for the 'Famous Views of Japan' series. The deep blue palette is similar to Himeji Castle, but the production was more elaborate, requiring twenty-seven printings including the blind-printing of the signature on the bottom margin. The gate is located within the Toshogu Shrines of Nikko, dedicated to the first Tokugawa shoguns.
