Summer Canyon, Black's Beach: Sunrise

with artist's gold seal, Binnie, numbered in pencil on the bottom margin from a limited edition of 100, titled Summer Canyon, Black's Beach: Sunrise, and signed Paul Binnie, 2022

16 1/8 by 11 5/8 in., 41.1 by 29.5 cm

This print, and its nocturnal companion, 'Moon Before Dawn,' are the fifth and sixth print in Binnie's Black's Beach series depicting views from each of the six access points to the remote California beach. The print illustrates a figure carrying a surfboard as this canyon is a popular inroad for the surfers who frequent the beach. In order to capture the effect of both moonlight and the transition to the sun rising from behind the bluffs, Binnie visited the beach well before dawn, which is also the most desired time for surfers who prefer the tranquil isolation.
