a rare example of shunga depicting a foreign couple make love on a brocade couch in an European-style interior with tile floor and low balustrade visible through a window and a telescope resting on the sill; he wears a felt hat, cloth coat decorated with braiding and buttons, white knit stockings and black leather shoes with buckles, his long tobacco pipe leans against the wall; we see her patterned skirt, white petticoat, grey knit stockings and dark grey clog shoes, her hair is decorated with flowers and feathers; subtly printed with metallic details; ca. 1840s
